This American LifeThursday, February 21st, 2008I love This American Life. The topics are great, the production is great, and Ira Glass’s nonchalant demeanor just makes the show. Unfortunately I don’t get to listen to it that often because our local NPR affiliate doesn’t carry it. However, TAL does offer streaming versions and a rather complete archive of all the shows on their site which I try to listen to whenever I get the chance. Today I listened to a great one about quiz shows and things of that nature, I highly recommend it. There’s a section about a guy who was on Jeopardy, with some great commentary about the ‘quiz show’ side of his brain versus the ‘real life’ side. They have a bit on the MIT Mystery Hunt (ever take part in this Adrian?), which sounds like fun. I also started listening to an episode called Tough Room, my favorite part being about how The Onion’s writers come up with their headlines. The internet is awesome. On a random note, I’m kinda upset that we didn’t get to see the lunar eclipse tonight because it was cloudy. Boooooo! 16 Blocks Issue #5Monday, February 18th, 2008Issue number 5 came out over the weekend, we’re proud of it. Check out the pdf. Drunk at 11am?Monday, February 18th, 2008I’ve never received any kind of alcohol through the mail before. Last week Christina’s friend Syrhan sent her a bottle of wine from wine.com via UPS. After two failed delivery attempts because we weren’t home and apparently someone 21+ has to sign for it, we finally got it and laughed out loud when we saw one of the labels on the box: “Do not deliver to an intoxicated person.” Now, I could maybe understand this if UPS delivered at like 10 or 11pm, when most people tend to drink. But the UPS guy usually rolls up in the late morning. Who would be so drunk before noon that they wouldn’t be able to sign for a bottle of wine? I guess maybe someone who orders themselves alcohol from the internet… Oh yeah, and the driver didn’t even card Christina, even though she could pass for a high-schooler. I imagine that after having to come back to our place 3 times he just wanted to be rid of the stupid thing. Strongbad on web-comicsFriday, February 15th, 2008It’s been a while since I spent some time over at Homestarrunner (There was a time I religiously checked it for new Strongbad Emails) but this one hit the nail on the head. The Penny Arcade reference had me rolling, as there was a time I used to read it religiously as well. Sewiously guys. Crunch TimeMonday, February 11th, 2008Posting will be sparse this week as all of my free time will be spent getting the next issue of 16 Blocks done. I know, everyone is sad…oh wait, no one reads my blog yet anyway. |
